believe it or not, the UrbanMech may actually be one of the best candidates for Omnification out there... instead of trying to adapt the same mech to multiple mission profiles (which can be very difficult considering that you can't change an Omni's engine rating), we give the mech in the same mission profile a wide range of configurations to choose from. for example, if you're going to be in a suburban environment rather than downtown, you may want to take the A configuration's Gauss Rifle rather than the Prime's LB-20X. or, if intel suggests heavy concentrations of enemy infantry and battle armor, take configuration B. configurations C and E are designed for general combat, while the D is obviously meant for close-in brawling. the last three variants are special-purpose machines. the AA is obviously an anti-aircraft platform, designed to engage fighters and VTOLs at extreme range. the FS variant is a long-range Fire Support mech, equipped with an Arrow IV artillery system. the mech is intended not only to support ground forces with pinpoint TAG-guided artillery, but also help bring down aircraft with SAMs. the last variant is something not often seen in an Omnimech, but quite reasonable given the UrbanOmnimech's likely deployment areas: a salvage and engineering variant. this variant not only gives units the ability to quickly clear urban areas of battle debres, but also put out fires, cool down friendly mechs, and remove dangerous chemicals (like mech coolant) from population areas.
unlike most Omnis, the UrbieO is not ment to be deployed with front-line forces... as such, cost was factor in it's design. while a couple new-tech weapons are used (as well as Endo Steel), everything else is leftovers from the CCAF's last round of upgrades. the cost of the Primary is measly 3 million C-Bills, and it's the most expensive one of the bunch. as urban defense mechs, a primary feature of most variants is some way of combating enemy infantry, generally Small Pulse Lasers. they may not do quite as much damage against foot troops as Flamers, but they run cooler and are far more accurate, making them much more useful against battle armor and less likely to destroy the city the mech is trying to defend. every mech does, however, have CASE if it carries ammo and jump jets standard.
